More than Great Food

Backyard Barbeque located at 300 Woodcleft Avenue in Freeport, NY was founded in 2018 by Archie Ware, father to now part owner and well-renowned Chef Kenneth Ware.

 

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in 2021, Ware partnered with childhood friend and Mixologist Michael Toney to take over the Woodcleft Avenue establishment. Using the skills Ware picked up from the Johnson & Wales Culinary School in Rhode Island, and Toney, an enthusiastic and autodidact Mixologist worked to create one of our Black-Owned businesses in Freeport.

About the Chef

Kenneth Ware is an energetic, creative and classical French taught chef of 10 years with a passion for cooking with farm to table and local ingredients. A skilled and innovative culinary talent who manages a 60-seat lunch and dinner barbecue restaurant, consistently implements the skills he's learned at the Johnson & Wales Culinary School, and his tenure working for Michelin Star and award-winning restaurants. Ware uses his experience to put a fine dining touch on many classic barbecue dishes.

About the Mixologist

Michael Toney is a an energetic, creative and enthusiastic autodidact Mixologist. Head Bartender and part-owner of Backyard Barbeque, Toney gained passion for inspired cocktails from a focus on the fundamentals, ensuring even the smallest details are accurate, and creating an all-inclusive experience in both product and service. From meticulously selecting the finest ingredients to achieving impeccable flavor balance, he ensures that every drink he creates is a masterpiece of taste and craftsmanship.
